Trading statistics: measure and improve your performance

Trading statistics turn your trades into usable information: they show what works, what costs you and where to improve. This guide explains which stats to track, how to read them and who they're for — from the beginner who wants to understand their results to the experienced trader refining their edge — then how EloTrades' analytics dashboard computes them automatically from your journal.

What are trading statistics?

Trading statistics are the numeric indicators computed from your past trades: win rate, risk/reward ratio (R:R), cumulative profit/loss (P&L), performance by pair, method or time slot. They objectively summarise your performance where memory and emotion distort reality.

They're for any trader who wants to improve with a method: without numbers, you repeat the same mistakes without realising it.

Which statistics should you track?

The most useful indicators to steer your progress:

  • Win rate: the percentage of winning trades.
  • Risk/reward ratio (R:R), planned and achieved.
  • Cumulative P&L and equity curve, to see the trend over time.
  • Performance by pair, method and time session.
  • Expectancy: the average expected gain per trade.

How to read your trading statistics?

A good win rate isn't enough: a trader who wins 40% of trades can be profitable with a high R:R. Always cross several indicators, and segment (by pair, method, time) to find where your performance really comes from.

The goal is one concrete action: drop an unprofitable setup, cut your risk on a session, or focus where you win.

EloTrades' analytics dashboard

EloTrades computes your statistics automatically, with no formula to build:

  • Win rate, average R:R, P&L and equity curve in real time.
  • Breakdown by pair, method and day/hour.
  • Stats fed by your journal (manual entry or MT5/Topstep import).
  • Monthly view: trade calendar and performance at a glance.

Statistics by hand or automatic dashboard?

Computing your stats in Excel is possible but time-consuming and error-prone. EloTrades computes them automatically, up to date on every trade.

Trading statistics — frequently asked questions

What are the most important trading statistics?+

Win rate, risk/reward ratio (R:R), cumulative P&L and per-trade expectancy are the most useful. Combined, they tell you whether your method is truly profitable. EloTrades computes them automatically from your journal.

Is a good win rate enough to be profitable?+

No. A high win rate with a poor R:R can lose money, and the reverse can win. Profitability depends on the combination of win rate and R:R (expectancy), not a single number.

How do you analyse your trading statistics?+

Segment by pair, method and time to see where your performance comes from, then take one concrete action (drop a setup, adjust your risk). EloTrades' dashboard provides these views with no manual calculation.

Does EloTrades compute statistics automatically?+

Yes. As soon as a trade is logged (manually or imported from MT5/Topstep), the dashboard updates win rate, R:R, P&L, equity curve and breakdowns by pair/method/time.

Is the analytics dashboard free?+

The full analytics dashboard is included from the Starter plan. You can start for free to explore EloTrades.
